Summer Camp

City Soleil is one of the biggest shanty-towns here, and is divided into several zones where people are living in extreme poverty. You can have nine persons in a family, with only two of them are going to school because their parents cannot help them. There are only two public schools. When the children are on summer vacation they have nothing to enjoy themselves. Therefore our schools always organize summer camp for the kids. We had a camp for a month for them where they have been learning many things, such as good manners, drawing, numbers, soccer, jumping to rope, playing cards, history, banana bark painting, playing music etc.

We have received food from a NGO named BND, which allowed us to feed about 400 children and 32 teachers during a month. They have milk in the morning and rice and bean sauce at noon. The children have spent meaningful time with their teachers. They have shared ideas with one another. Action Chretienne has received some materials from a couple of people from the USA named VIP. Those materials have been used for the children to play during camp. They include: balloons, a pump, t-shirts, etc. We have organized a competition for them, and on the last day all of the winners received a gift. That was amazing, and every kid was delighted to get involved in the camp.

Concerning the parents, they thought that this was a great summer program, because the children always had a place to relax and learn about something good. The parents hope we will continue with this as much we are able to. The teachers were so happy to participate in that program and play with the children. They love to work and help kids with their knowledge.Thank you to everybody who helped us realize the summer time program.
